How to get your Class 6 Motorcycle Learner Licence

THE BASIC HANDLING SKILLS TEST (BHST)

The first step in getting your motorcycle licence to complete the Basic Handling Skills Test (BHST) before you can apply for your Class 6 Motorcycle Learner Licence.

This is a competency based training & assessment carried out in a car park (or similar closed area) and allows the rider to learn and develop their skills in a safe environment prior to undertaking the NZTA Basic Handling Skills Test.

Confident Rider Package - $195

If you have some riding experience and are able to confidently navigate the gears, we allow up to 1½ hours for you to complete the training, assessment & test which allows time to practice and get used to the bike. Candrive will supply a LAMS approved bike and motorcycle gear for the assessment/test, however if you would like to use your own bike, please let us know in advance so that we can ensure that it meets the NZTA requirements.

Novice Rider Package - $375

If you have limited experience on a bike or have never ridden a motorcycle before, we allow up to 2½ hours for you to complete the training, assessment & test (if ready) which includes time to get used to the bike. Candrive will supply a LAMS approved bike and motorcycle gear for the assessment/test, however if you would like to use your own bike, please let us know in advance so that we can ensure that it meets the NZTA requirements.

What happens next? 

After successful completion of the BHST practical assessment, Candrive will issue you with a NZTA certificate for your BHST. Take it to your local driver licencing agent and apply to sit your your Class 6 learner licence test.
